Why Do You Care

Just leave me alone. Why do you care my mom doesn't care so why do you (Cindy). Because were best friends and that’s what best friends do care for each other (Jamee). Cindy come on, remember when things were bad for me, don’t forget the time when Bobby Wallace beat me up. You took me in and took care of me, now it’s time for me to take care of you. It’s my turn for me to help you get yourself together. That’s not the same (Cindy). It’s close enough (Jamee). Okay just give me 5 minutes (Cindy). This story is told from the perspectives of Cindy and Jamee from the book Someone to Love Me. This story is related to Urban Youth Culture because there is just so many young adults that think they are alone in whatever struggle or problem their going through, when there not it doesn't matter what your problem is there is always someone there to help. You might not realize them now but when you get the chance take a second look it might even be someone you least expect. I Dont Think She Cares Anymore

If there were some good times I don't remember them. Since I was a little girl and never spent much time together. I soon realized that she was a drug addict. I remember she would lock herself in her room for days at a time. During those days my aunt Shirley would come by and take care of me. I always loved my aunt Shirley visits. We’d make homemade apple pies and cook breakfast together every morning. Once I spent a whole summer with my aunt Shirley while my mom went to rehab. Then one day my mom came to take me home. For a while things were going great. We built a wonderful relationship, until she started dating.  At first I was happy for her, but after several break ups she became frustratingly desperate. She stopped spending time with me. She cared about her boyfriends more than she cared about me. I even told her that her boyfriend criticizes me and calls me names but she doesn't care all she says is he's always talked about people it’s nothing don't take it so serious. I can’t even remember the last time she gave me a hug. I don't think she loves me anymore. Does she?

Low Self Esteem

I wonder if I'm pretty. I'm skinny, light skinned with hazel eyes and my hair flows down my back. I never really tried to think about my appearance because I don’t consider myself as pretty and nice looking like the other girls. My neighbor told me I had beautiful eyes. Do I? I don't know what to think, how can anything be beautiful about me when I get called names like ugly-mugly and freaky eyes. I personally never thought of myself as being cute or attracting. Maybe I should, it probably would bring up my self esteem. (This Story is told from the perspective of Cindy the main character from the book Someone to Love Me). Self esteem is a common problem in urban youth culture. It can bring a person down or build a person up, it can make a person feel really good about their self or really bad. It determinds the physical appearance and emotional feelings you'll have in the future about yourself. For more information http://www.moreselfesteem.com/selfesteemarticle.htm

Gang Violence

This is a picture of a sign that says violence crossed out in read.

Febuary 9th, 2011                                                                                                                                                                                Gang violence is an issue in urban youth culture. It can result in death, brutal violence and even trauma. A few years back my brother was shot in his back over gang violence.   Soon after he was released from the hospital he was sentenced to 2 years for selling illegal drugs and having an un- registered gun. Brothers in Arms is a novel I am currently reading. It is based on a teen named Martin Luna, he happens to be in trouble. Just months before his 8 year old brother was shot dead. Now all he can think is he’s next. My advice to teens is that no in the world decides your future except for the decisions you make in life so make the right because the wrong one will decide your future. If you are reading this paper I hoped that it inspired you or touched you in any way. If it didn’t I understand because my way of writing literacy is not for everyone. Your decision might not be as bad after all. Gangs often provide the family you never had, the money you always needed, and the respect you always wished for.

Drop Outs

Book cover- Somone to Love Me

Febuary 18th,2011  My English class is currently reading books on urban youth culture teen conflicts. My book is based on a girl named Cindy and her issues that are going on at home. Cindy is a  young teenager who is at the edge of loosing her education. She is dealing with low self esteem and a verbally abusive father figure. Cindy has not been going to school for some time know. She tends to wake up every morning with the same excuses "Mom i have a headach ,mom my stomach hurts, mom i have cramps, and so on." This usaually resuslts in droping out of school.  Did you know that 75% of drop outs end up dead in jail or become a member of a gang. Some  advise I have for people that can relate to this blog is to not waste your talent get do what you need to do to get through the 12 years of your school life done and over with its worth it. You can also find really geat advise on http:/teenadvise.com
